ONE EARTH, ONE CHANCE - EARTH DAY 2020

22nd April is celebrated as Earth Day globally. It is the day to celebrate nature’s gift which is made available to us. The day that helps us recognize our complete dependence on its bounties and acknowledge the need for good stewardship to preserve its fruits for future generations.

We at DPS Sharjah, celebrated this day by ensuring 100% participation of students in various activities and a valuable contribution from each of our DPS members towards Earth day. This year, keeping in account of the current situation of covid-19, the environment committee took charge and planned out distinct activities for students of all grades to ensure their active participation and interest on this remarkable event. The celebrations and activities were carried out for the entire week from 17th April-23rd April,2020.

The event kickstarted by students taking the pledge to protect the environment. This was followed by an informative presentation which enlightened the students about the history of Earth Day. Students from grades 6-12 were encouraged to attempt a quiz based on the environmental activities and achievements of the school to stir up responsibility and awareness in the young minds.

The Students of Grade 6 were engaged in a word search in respect to the theme of environment. Similarly, students of Grade 7 were provided with interactive Cross word puzzle. Grade 8 participated in JAM (Just-A-Minute) where students had to deliver a one-minute speech on the topic ‘Climate Change’. The senior students of Grades 9 and 10 actively participated in the making of colourful posters which was based on the theme of Earth Day 2020-Climate Change. The Students of Grade 11 and 12 were required to form the word E-A-R-T-H with their hands to spread awareness.

These activities were carried out effortlessly with aid of ‘Zoom’ and ‘Teams’ app during the Class Teacher’s period . The students under the guidance of their respective class teachers spent a productive hour. To corroborate that students from grades 7,9 and 10 learn through all possible ways, e-learning was made exciting throughout the week by conducting Quiz classes during Quiz periods which were based on 'Environment topics'.

The Environment Committee succeeded in achieving maximum participation of students of DPS Sharjah towards this global event breaking all blocks of the present times and yet, once again, came together on a virtual platform for this finest green initiative .The result was excellent with a very positive response from students, teachers and parents.
