“The environment is where we all meet; where we all have a mutual interest; it is the one thing all of us share”
The Environment Committee of DPS Sharjah organized a set of insightful and creative activities for students from grade 6 to12 in lieu of World Environment Day. The activities were designed to spread awareness amongst students and improve their general understanding of the environment.
All students from grade 6-12 started the day by taking a pledge to protect and nurture the environment with full fervor, while the onsite environment team participated in a promising tree plantation activity.
The theme for the students of grade 6 was ‘Restore the Earth’, where they were encouraged to write original poems and slogans to express their creativity. The theme for grade 7 was conservation of environment, the students displayed their talent by making e-posters and analog artwork on recycled paper. The students of grade 8 were presented with the topic of ‘Awareness on United Nations Sustainable Development Goals’. The students created comic strips of 3-4 frames either hand drawn or digitally on a free website.
Adding on to the pool of optimum participation, students made grocery bags from old t-shirts in order to upcycle the existing materials. A ramp-walk was hosted as well, where the talented girls of middle school created a mesmerizing atmosphere for the audience.
Simultaneously, Grades 9 and 10 were engaged in a friendly competition on the impact of industries on the environment. The students teamed up in groups and created a presentation of length 2-4 minutes on the topics that they were provided with, while the other teams were allowed to challenge them. This resulted in a healthy competition, leaving everyone present with a lot to ponder upon.
Grades 11 and 12 focused on Environmental Protection through innovative solutions that were discussed and finalized in order to suggest methods to protect Biodiversity. This was conducted through presentations, group discussions, project proposals and a general quiz to test their knowledge on the topic.
In addition to the activities mentioned above, students from grades 6 to 12 also took part in a Film Fest that was organized by the school which provided them a platform to unleash their film-making skills.
Hence, The Environment Committee effortlessly succeeded in receiving maximum participation and a 100% success rate in achieving their objective, which was to educate and empower all the students of the school in terms of taking action for a better, greener and sustainable future.
