Event: Ghaf tree seed plantation, Awareness about Ghaf tree
Objective: To increase the number of Ghaf trees that are dwindling
Date: 7th Dec 2019, 9 am to 11 am
Organizers: GOUM BOOK (CHANGING MINDSETS)
PARTICIPANTS: Students from various schools and community
TYPE OF PROGRAM: Community Outreach for Sustainability & Year Of tolerance
The program started with registration and a speech by Ms. Nasreen, from GOUM Book.
They enlightened about the importance of the Ghaf tree and its benefits. We realized that the
tree is facing endangerment and hence the need to plant them. They need to be planted in
thousands as only ONE OUT OF EVERY 500 seeds planted, survives to be a full-fledged tree.
The process of seed collection is itself a tedious process- collecting them during summer from below the trees. Once planted in soil, they need to be taken care for almost a year in a nursery. These are then planted in the desert areas.
I totally loved the far-sighted approach of this program and what they are doing for our
future (Our Generation) for a better quality life. I am very proud to have been part of this
event. Each student was given 5 pots and soil to plant 5 seeds each. I was lucky to plant another 5 seeds. I sincerely wish that these seeds sprout up and grow into healthy trees. Many students from DPS were part of this event.
