ARAB ENVIRONMENT DAY : PAPERLESS PAUSE @ PRIMARY WING

“Learn character from trees, values from roots and changes from leaves.” – Tasneem Hameed

Each year, October 14 is celebrated as Arab Environment Day. It is celebrated to raise awareness and protect our environment. Our modern lifestyle and unsustainable development patterns have placed increasing pressure on our mother Earth. Thus, these occasions help to reach out to the wider public and younger generations to encourage and educate them about the importance of protecting the environment and natural resources.

The celebration theme for this year’s ‘Arab Environment Day’ in DPS, Sharjah was to go ‘Paperless’ for a day. The students of primary wing across the grades appreciated and recognized the importance of this day by refraining themselves from using paper and literally involved themselves in special classroom assemblies and in general discussion on importance of saving trees. They also discussed how paper is made and the different ways in which they could reduce, reuse, and recycle the papers and made models of trees with clay.

The students through these activities emphasized the importance of this day and stressed on the need to promote environmental conservation, sustainable transportation, clean and green technology. An informative video on the protection of trees and sustainability was also shown to students.

They finally penned down their opinions and ideas for creating the awareness of this special day in the Padlet link shared by their teacher.
