ABOUT US

Delhi Private School, Sharjah - an Eco-Friendly School

Delhi Private School- Sharjah, is an environment-friendly school where conserving the environment is considered a No.1 priority. As a school, we regularly observe paperless days, and a shift in student-mindset regarding the need for an eco-friendly environment is becoming increasingly visible with each passing day.

From Primary to Senior Secondary level, the Environment Committee, organizes various Youth and Eco Club related activities in our school campus and the neighborhood, through the year. Concrete and diligent efforts are undertaken to make each, and every student understand that we haven’t inherited the environment from our ancestors but have borrowed it from our future generation.

Since the school remains closed during the months of July and August due to summer vacations, environment-related activities are conducted all year long.

Some of them are as listed below-

  • World Environment Day

World Environment Day is celebrated enthusiastically in June at DPS Sharjah. This year students came prepared with visual presentations like PPTs, videos, skits, charts, etc. depicting the urgent need to preserve our surroundings. Students composed beautiful songs with the aim of raising awareness for Mother Earth and also designed posters and banners which were later exhibited all around the school.

  • Plantation

This year, Earth Day, was celebrated in April, and every student was instructed to bring a plant or sapling to be planted within the school premises in order to follow CBSE’s extraordinary and considerate One Child One Plant campaign. Plantations have now become an integrated part of our school system and have helped to sensitize students about conservation and its requirements. Students were also encouraged to put their creativity to the best possible  use as they were asked to prepare slogans for the Environment Day Parade.

  • Awareness

Quizzes relating to the environment and the daily developments in environment-related matters all around the world are conducted regularly by members of the eco-committee for students of all grades.

  • Charity

Another significant DPS initiative was when students made notebooks, wall posters, and teaching aids from paper, recycled material and stationery, for the benefit of the needy children in India. Mr. Venkataraman Krishnamoorthy, “the Pencil man of the UAE” was the chief guest of the morning assembly programme which was held on 26 June .

Water Conservation

‘Conservation of Water’ is another important global matter that our school has been working towards since the past few years. A Sewage Treatment Plant to ensure complete utilization of excess unutilized or unwanted water, has been installed on campus. As the water from Sharjah Municipality reaches the taps and is used by the staff and students, it is routed to the treatment plant where wastes are treated and is then sent to the WC (Cistern) which is used for flushing - thus reusing water and reducing wastage. The water is sent back to the sewage treatment plant where it is filtered and used as part of the drip irrigation system for plants and in the sprinklers for grass. The human waste is converted into compost and is then used as fertilizer for the plants on campus. The taps in our washrooms are designed to support water conservation, i.e. the flow of water stops automatically after 3 seconds ensuring minimal wastage of water. As a result, efficiency of conservation of water in our school can be considered as high as 300%.

  • Conservation of Electricity

Conservation of electricity is another well-planned concept in our school as well. There are auto on/off emergency lights in every corridor, and solar panels have been installed in various parts of the campus. Students are also taught how to perform solar-cooking and the importance of saving electricity in modern times. Students are instructed to switch off lights and ACs before leaving the class.

  • Achievements

DPS Sharjah has also received many awards, like the Inspiring Climate School Award 2019, for its constant effort towards saving the environment and making a significant effort towards the same.

We, at DPS Sharjah do not merely try to protect the environment. We try to create a world where the environment doesn’t need protection.
